New member intake is closed for the academic year 2024/2025, and will open again next September for both beginners and Crossovers.

ALL TRAINING IS CLOSED PRACTICE, DO NOT ATTEND CALENDAR SCHEDULED EVENTS UNLESS ADVISED TO DO SO.

If you already hold a Diving Ireland qualification from a club in Ireland, please contact divingofficer@galwaydiving.com with proof of your qualification and the contact details of your clubs Diving Officer.

The University of Galway in alliance with The Atlantic Technological University form the University of Galway Sub-Aqua club. Our club is at its most active during the summer months, traveling all along the Irish Coastline to dive.

The club also offers training in diving for beginners every year, which leads to the award of a Diver 1* Qualification from CMAS (Confédération Mondiale Des Activitiés Subaquatiques), an internationally recognised entry-level diving qualification. This programme spans both semesters, and trainees are encouraged to progress to Diver 2* qualification in their second year of diving.

The club's instructors give up their time freely to provide world class training to our students, voluntarily lecturing weekly and teaching in the pool from September to March every year. They are also involved in the development of exam candidates for the advanced courses that students may avail of through Diving Ireland.

The club also facilitates the progression of our members through Rescue, Diver Coxswain, Diver First Responder, Leading Diver (D3*) and Instructor courses.

Our club has also played a part in introducing students to the professional world of diving, with a number of graduates pursuing careers involving diving, making the club a valuable provider and source of highly sought after graduate attributes in our alumni.

Want to know more? Come to our annual information evening, held in the second/third week of September. Follow our social media pages to keep updated on the official date announcement!

History

In 1963, the UCG Diving Society was founded. Over the following years the society was disbanded and the UCG Diving Club was formed. In recent years the Galway RTC joined our ranks and we are now the UG/ATU Galway Sub-Aqua Club.

Achievements

We are the oldest and amongst the largest university diving clubs run by undergraduates and postgraduates of the two colleges.

Meetings

The University of Galway Sub-Aqua club conducts SCUBA diving courses for beginners, culminating in the awarding of an internationally recognised entry-level diving qualification, whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety. Certified divers are welcome to join the club, and can start diving with us after a straightforward crossover process. We dive all along the west coast from Malin Head, Co. Donegal to Schull, Co. Cork. The club is a member of Diving Ireland  which in turn is affiliated to C.M.A.S. (Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques). We adhere to the highest safety standards as outlined by these organisations and award the various qualifications under their guidelines.
