Muay Thai

At the University of Galway the Muay Thai club has grown considerably since it began and we continue to train and compete regularly.

Muay Thai, sometimes called Thai boxing is a Thai martial art and full-contact combat sport.

A combination of stand-up striking, sweeps and various clinching techniques are used against your opponent.

At the University of Galway the Muay Thai club has grown considerably since it began and we continue to train and compete regularly.

History

University of Galway Muay Thai was established in 2004 and began with under 10 members, now we have over 900 registered members.

Achievements

We have a number of fighters from the University of Galway club that have fought on an amateur and a professional level, nationally and internationally. In 2016 we held a sellout event in the Black Box hosting fights. The four nations title holder Mike Harty is coached under our previous coach, Dave Joyce.

Anyone who has a dream to fight can achieve that dream through University of Galway Muay Thai with hard work and commitment.
