Tae Kwon Do

The University of Galway TaeKwon-Do Club celebrated it's 30th year as a University club in 2023/24. We are a member of Taekwondo Ireland, but welcome students from all organisations and taekwondo affiliations.



Taekwon-Do is one of the most widely practiced martial arts in the world. It is both a style of combat and international sport of Korean origin. We practice a combination of sparring, patterns, breaking and self defense. The club is open to all levels and members, whether you are looking to get fit, meet people, compete or just have a good time, come join the University of Galway Taekwon-Do club today.

History

The university of Galway Taekwon-Do Club celebrated it's 30th year as a University club in 2023/324 We are a member of Taekwondo Ireland, but welcome students from all organisations and taekwondo affiliations.

Our head instructor is Ms. Fitzpatrick, who is a 4th Dan Black Belt. She has been a member of the club since she joined as a white belt. 

Achievements

Spring 2025 Grading

In April 2025 the club hosted a grading with the University of Limerick Taekwondo club. All members of our club successfully passed their gradings and assessments and overall the day was very successful.

Promotions:
  • Cara Schmidt promoted to blue tag.
  • Robyn Cournane promoted to green belt.
  • Vanessa Lazo Charur passed assessment.
  • Edie Hall passed assessment.

Meetings

We train in the Kingfisher Sports Hall at the following times:

Monday 8:15 - 10:30 pm, Hall 3

Wednesday 7:00 - 8:50 pm, Hall 2

Thursday 9:10 - 10:45 pm, Hall 3

Training is free of charge for the first two week trial period, following this a cost of €5 per semester for all registered NUIG students, Staff and Alumni will apply.
