Gerry Ryan Memorial Gala 2025

Posted by Swimming & Waterpolo on Tue, 21-01-2025

Last weekend, our swimming club traveled to Limerick for the much-anticipated Gerry Ryan Memorial Gala, a three-day-long competition marking the first long-course event of the year. The gala brought together swimmers from all over Munster and Connacht, and we are proud to say our club left a lasting impression both in and out of the pool.

It was a weekend of long days, hard work, and determination as our swimmers tackled challenging events and fiercely competitive heats. Their efforts paid off, with several personal bests (PBs) achieved and outstanding podium finishes.

Standout Performances

  • Ailbhe Mulhall secured 2nd place in the Female 1500m Freestyle, demonstrating incredible endurance and skill.
  • In the Open 100m Breaststroke, Jake van de Beek claimed a well-earned 3rd place, showing strength and consistency.
  • The Open 50m Breaststroke was a thrilling race, with Éidhne Kennedy taking 2nd place, closely followed by Jake, who finished in 3rd.

Inspiration for Future Generations

Beyond the competition, the presence of our swimmers made a strong impact on the younger attendees. It was heartwarming to see so many young swimmers looking up to our athletes as role models, inspired by their dedication and sportsmanship.

This gala was more than just a competition; it showed the teamwork and determination that make our club special. It was amazing to see how much support our team got over the weekend. We can’t wait to keep building on this success!
