Swimming & Waterpolo

The University of Galway Swimming, Waterpolo, and Lifesaving Club caters to all levels of swimmers, from those learning to swim to those competing in national and international competitions. Training takes place every day during the week.

Universty of Galway Swimming, Waterpolo & Lifesaving Club caters to Swimmers of all skill levels. From the individual who has never set foot in a pool before to the international medal holder. The club is set up in three branches. Swimming, Waterpolo & Lifesaving. All train in the Kingfisher complex on the University grounds. Swimming: Train towards the Swimming Intervarsity competition. Waterpolo: Train towards the Waterpolo Intervarsity Lifesaving: Train for SLS (surf life saving).

History

2012:Swimming: Won Men's Intervarsities, Waterpolo: Won Men's IntervarsitiesLifesaving: Won Intervasities...2012 was a good year for us!

2014: Water-Polo: 2nd in the Men's Intervarsities, Life-Saving: Won Intervarsities

2017: Achieved 82% podium finishes in NUIG Invitational Gala.

2018: Competed at University of Limerick's Invitional Gala. Women's relay team won both the Medley and Freestyle

2019: NUIG Girls Finished 3rd, NUIG 1st in Lifesaving

2020: NUIG Girls Finished 2nd place, with a 2 point difference between 1st and 2nd. NUIG Swimming best result to date. 

2022: In Intervarsities 2022,  NUIG Girls Finished in 1st place and NUIG Boys Finished in 3rd place. NUIG overall finished 2nd. This is NUIG's best result to date.

2023: In Intervarsities 2023, University of Galway placed second in the overall, men’s and women’s competition. Three of our swimmers represented the Irish university team in Wales. And many of our swimmers competed at national level. 

2024: In Intervarsities 2024, University of Galway placed 4th in the overall, men's and women’s, competition. Overall Men's 3rd Place and Overall Women's 4th place

We hope to continue to be involved in college and Swim Ireland competitions this year.
