Some club members competed at Cork Open 2026, fielding a team in combination with players from UCD.
Competing as the combined team ‘UCDG Ballers’
After losing the first two games of the group stages to very strong sides in KACC and Kilcullen,
UCDG Ballers made a comeback run through the second bracket,
- Beating UCC Ultras 4-3 in the first half of Golden Goal as the close match had drawn level at the initial full time.
- Heading into an even closer game with Wild Water Warriors, drawing 3-3 at the close and going to double overtime in two halves of Golden Goal with nothing scored. Ultimately ending in Bo5 Penalty shootout, with UoG’s Oisín Naughton, UCD’s Luke Hodgkinson & Quentin, scoring for UCDG. And UoG’s Aaron Cummins in Sticks(Goalkeeper) saving all but one of Wild Water Warrior’s shots, for a 3-1 scoreline in penalties, and advancing on 4-3 (or 6-4).
-The run came to an end when meeting Lower Bracket favourites Mad Cow, with an enjoyable game but 5-0 loss to the higher division team.
For a final finish of 2nd place in the Lower Bracket!
Lots of fun, and tons learned about Canoe Polo.
Day 2 was a mixed random entry, playing with players from all teams, super social and competitive! No results to note in this tournament format.
