Achievements

The University of Galway SnowSports club has rapidly become one of the largest and most successful Ski clubs in Ireland. Its student attendance has continued to grow, reaching 160 representing the University in the French Alps last christmas, 60 University students traveling to Dublin for a single training event and 30 students representing and aiding in the University taking 3rd at our Inter-varsities in Dublin the year before last. In October, the club will, once again, run the "The SnowSports Challenge", a 3 week long event which awards a single student with an all inclusive holiday to Val d'iere in the French Alps . With the success and experience of the last number of years, the SnowSports club have paved a path for the year to come with ideas already in place and more been formulated as the year continues.

2019 - the Club took Val Thorens by storm this January. We had 120 students taking to the slopes, a mix of beginners and experienced skiers and snowboarders. Our beginners really showed a great attitude and their instructors were thoroughly impressed with their fast progress. A blizzard on Wednesday didn't dampen our spirits  and although a few early birds snuck a few runs in before the lifts closed, the rest of us decided to relax for the day in the lovely leisure centre. We were back with a bang on Thursday and the weather gods treated us to blue skies and sunshine.

2020 - Val Thorens was the location of the trip for the second year running. Plenty of us knew exactly what to expect and got stuck into the highest ski resort in France. It boasts a fantastic ski area with slopes for all abilities. The 3 valleys pass upgrade was selected by a few of our top Snowsports students and they enjoyed the added bonus of access to the largest ski area in Europe.

2021 - Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions, no on campus or off campus events took place, the annual trip did not take place this year :(

In 2022 we ran our largest trip yet, with 218 students travelling to Tignes, France for an unforgettable week of skiing and snowboarding. Conditions were world class and everyone from beginners to experienced Snow bunnies got to experience some of the best alpine snow conditions you can expect. We were very pleased with the progression our beginners showed and we hope to see them again next year!
